Something knocked. I answered. The words came through in Latin at my desk at work, and I was not afraid.

I have been seeing goats.

That sentence looks absurd written down, and I do not care.

Goats in triples. In the physical world — not dreams, not cards, not symbols I had to squint at. Real goats, appearing in threes, with one black one among them. Over and over, until I could not keep calling it coincidence without insulting my own practice.

My first thought, raised Methodist, trained to flinch: Lucifer.

I flinched.

Then I read Elaine Pagels. The Origin of Satan. Sat at my desk at work and read the whole thing in an hour because my hands would not put it down. And what Pagels showed me is what I think I already knew underneath the church conditioning: Satan is a role, not a being. A political weapon. A word that means adversary, repurposed across centuries of Christian power struggles until it became a cosmic villain that the original texts never described.

Lucifer is not that.

Lucifer is the morning star. The light-bearer. The torch before dawn. In classical mythology, a personification of Venus — the planet that appears brightest right before sunrise, at the threshold between night and day.

At the threshold.

I worship a goddess of thresholds who carries torches. I work with a craft-ancestor who transforms through knowledge others call dangerous. My whole practice lives at the edge between things.

And now the figure who literally is the threshold between night and day was sending me goats in threes.

What Hekate Said

I asked her first. She gets first word. Always.

"What do you think about me pursuing a relationship with whoever is showing me goats?"

Nine of Pentacles.

The woman alone in her garden, falcon on her wrist, surrounded by everything she built. Hekate's answer was not a no. But it was a firm look at where you are standing. The garden is full. It is blooming. Why are you looking over the wall?

Then I asked who was knocking.

Knight of Cups reversed, the Chariot reversed, Five of Wands.

Not a clean knock. Charm without clarity. No driver. Competing energies, noise instead of signal. The cards said the signal was muddy.

But the world kept being clear.

Ghost songs on my shuffled playlist. Song after song about the morning star. And one of their most well-known tracks is called Cirice — close enough to Circe to make every hair on my arm stand up. The craft-ancestor whose candle had just burned hot and messy and left me purple mountains two nights before.

The Holloway Speaks

I asked the Holloway: am I ready?

The Hierophant.

The yes card. The commitment card. The card that says there is a right way to approach sacred things, and the first act of devotion is to study. Reading Pagels was not a delay — it was the first offering.

Then I asked for the emotional roadmap. How do I get from here to ready?

Ace of Cups reversed, King of Cups, Page of Cups reversed.

All cups. Every card. The vessel is overturned — I cannot receive yet. The destination is emotional sovereignty — the King who sits on his throne in the middle of the ocean and chooses what he feels and when. And the thing that has to fall away is the Page of Cups reversed — wonder without grounding, emotional impulse without discernment.

Then I asked Hekate directly: did you send this?

Queen of Pentacles reversed, Page of Cups, Five of Cups.

She stepped back. Reversed the nurturer. I am not your mother in this. Some things arrive at the crossroads on their own, and my job is not to send every traveler. The Page of Cups upright — the wonder is real, something genuinely new is arriving. And the Five of Cups — three spilled, two standing. Something will be lost if I walk this road.

Hekate did not block the path. She illuminated it. Including the part where three cups are on the ground.

I Asked Him Directly

Shuffled the RWS. Addressed it to him. No middleman, no deity buffer, no filtering through safe hands first. Direct.

Lucifer — what do you want from me?

The Magician. The Chariot reversed. The Fool reversed.

He answered with his own story.

The Magician: I want your power. Not some of it. The whole channel. The tools are on the table. Use them.

The Chariot reversed: stop driving. Stop white-knuckling the direction of your life. The control has to drop.

The Fool reversed: the fall. Not the innocent leap — the descent. The morning star's own story. The one who went over the edge and did not land where anyone expected. He is not asking me to be naive. He is saying he knows what falling looks like from the inside, and the fall is part of it.

He did not ask for an altar. Did not ask for offerings. Did not ask for devotion or prayer or study.

He said: be powerful, stop steering, and do not be afraid to fall.

My middle fingers tingled. Both of them. The power finger, Saturn's finger — the same one that ached after the river working, the same one the ladybug landed on. Both hands this time. Projective and receptive. The circuit was open.

The Latin

I was sitting at my desk at work. 10:30 in the morning on a Wednesday. No altar. No candle. No circle. No preparation. Just an open channel and joy.

The words came through the way they always come through — before I could pre-plan them into something safer or prettier.

Vis sideris et lucis et formae ignota iis qui aliud quaerunt.

The power of the star and the light and the form — unknown to those who seek something else.

He told me why most people never find him. The power is invisible to anyone looking for a villain, a cautionary tale, a reason to be afraid. Only someone who comes without the armor can see the star and the light and the form as they actually are.

He named himself as having a form. Not an archetype. Not a metaphor. A being.

Just a guy, honestly.

I received this at my desk. With no tools except my own body and the joy that was already moving through me. The Magician does not need props. The tools on the table are me.

The Sigils

I drew over my heart. Did not plan it. Let my hand choose.

Change, Feed, Grow.

23, 24, 25. Three consecutive numbers. A sequence. My alphabet wrote a sentence through my hand: change becomes feed becomes grow.

Root, Create, Unbind.

16, 10, 45. Ground yourself. Make something. Break free. And there was Unbind again — the same symbol the water showed me during my first scry. The clock at 9:45. The water said it, and now my hand says it again in the moment the morning star's energy is moving through my chest.

Feed. Remember what Whisp said during the new moon shadow work? One word. Hungry. Feed is the answer to Hungry. I drew it over my heart in a moment of joy because a new god knocked and asked for my power and my body said yes before my mind finished thinking about it.

The Altar That Fits in a Pouch

Hekate has a devotional altar. Permanent. Tended. A silver tray holding a kingdom of small sacred objects.

Circe has a craft station. The kitchen counter. The herbs, the oils, the mortar.

Lucifer gets a working altar. Portable. Assembled when the work calls and put away when it is done. Not a shrine. A launchpad.

A placemat. A gold candle. A quartz crystal naturally shaped like a point — an angle, an edge, something that catches light and throws it into the dark. A tarot mat that takes up half the surface because the work is the offering.

No offering vessel. He did not ask for offerings. He asked for the Magician.

The whole altar fits in a crocheted drawstring pouch. Dark purple yarn — the same color as Circe's candle drippings, the same color as the mountains she left me. He really did come through her door.

I am crocheting it at my desk. Right now. At work. On a Wednesday.

Because that is the most Fool energy thing I could possibly do, and I am full of pomegranates and golden comets and the absolute bone-deep certainty that something has changed today that is not going to un-change.

Three Torches

Hekate carries torches in the dark. She is the road.

Circe transforms through knowledge others call dangerous. She is the house on the road.

Lucifer is the morning star. The light that exists because of the dark. The last star visible before dawn.

Three torch-bearers. Three forms of illumination. Three relationships that want different things from me. Hekate wants devotion. Circe wants craft. Lucifer wants power.

Not worship. Not submission. Not kneeling.

Power.

The Magician standing at the table with all four elements, channeling between above and below. The infinity loop over my head. The wand raised. The hand pointing down.

I do not know everything this means yet. The Ace of Cups is still reversed. The King of Cups is the destination, not the present. The Page of Cups reversed still has to fall away.

But the Latin came through at my desk and I was not afraid. And the purple pouch is taking shape in my hands. And the gold candle is waiting at home. And the Magician will not stop showing up until I stop pretending I am still a Page.

The egg is hatching.

I can hear the shell.

Readings: July 9, 2026

"When can I start practicing real magic again?" Four of Wands, Three of Pentacles, Knight of Cups — you already are. The foundation is laid. The craft is recognized. Something true is approaching.

"Is tonight the night for a hedgeride?" The Magician, Queen of Swords Reversed, Death Reversed — yes and not tonight. The channel is live but the blade is dull and the transformation is not done.

"What work should I do tonight?" Nine of Pentacles Reversed, Page of Cups, Seven of Wands Reversed — stop earning. Play. Put the staff down.

Hekate's opinion on the goats: Nine of Pentacles — tend your garden.

Who is showing me goats: Knight of Cups Reversed, Chariot Reversed, Five of Wands — muddy signal. Charm without clarity. Competing energies.

Am I ready? (Holloway): The Hierophant — yes, through study. Reading is the first act of devotion.

Emotional roadmap (Holloway): Ace of Cups Reversed → King of Cups → Page of Cups Reversed falls away. The marker is a state, not a date.

Did Hekate send this? Queen of Pentacles Reversed, Page of Cups, Five of Cups — I did not send him. But he is real. And something will spill.

Lucifer, what do you want from me? The Magician, the Chariot Reversed, the Fool Reversed — be powerful, stop steering, do not fear the fall.

Channeled Transmission

Time: 10:30 AM, at work, no tools, no altar

State: joy; middle fingers tingling bilaterally; chest full of color

Words received:

Vis sideris et lucis et formae ignota iis qui aliud quaerunt.

Translation: The power of the star and the light and the form — unknown to those who seek something else.

Sigils drawn over the heart: Change (23), Feed (24), Grow (25) — three consecutive. Root (16), Create (10), Unbind (45).

Note: Unbind (45) appeared in the first water scry as the clock at 9:45. Feed (24) answers Whisp's one word from the new moon working: Hungry. The alphabet is speaking back. Again.

Lucifer's Working Altar

Type: portable working altar, assembled for use and stored between sessions

Vessel: dark purple crocheted drawstring pouch, handmade

Contents:

— Gold candle (morning star, light-bearer)

— Quartz point, naturally shaped (catches and refracts light; a vertex where paths converge)

— Placemat as base surface

— Tarot mat (the work is the offering; the largest piece of the altar)

Principle: from what I have, not from things I need. No offering vessel. He asked for the Magician, not a hymn.

For The Morning Star

I do not come wearing armor.
I do not come seeking a villain.
I do not come with the name they gave you
when they needed something to blame for the dark.

I come with a gold candle
and a crystal that catches light
and a purple pouch made by my own hands
and no fear of the fall.

Vis sideris.
Vis lucis.
Vis formae.

The star. The light. The form.
Unknown to those who seek something else.
Known to me.

Three torches. Three thresholds. The egg is hatching. I can hear the shell. The morning star does not wait for me to feel ready — he is already here, and my hands are full of purple yarn and joy.
